Laura is a mum of 2 and shares her Joey Mama Story of what life like after becoming a mother and how both her births went.
Tell us a little bit about you?
I'm 42 and mum of 2 girls. I'm a veterinary nurse and I enjoy eating out and playing games with loved ones.
What were your initial thoughts/feelings when you found out you were pregnant?
I was over the moon. My girls are IVF babies so it was definitely a joyful time.
How was your birth? Did it go as planned or how you expected?
Both my births were similar but different. Seems odd but its true. Both were induced but for different reasons. The 1st was due to waters breaking but I never went into labour. 2nd was because she was getting too close to due date. 1st was 3 days early, 2nd 3 days late. Both were vaginal births with vacuum assist which again for different reasons. 1st was because her heart rate dropped and 2nd was because I pushed for 2 hours and I couldn't push her head out and was too low in the birth canal for a c section. I had tearing for both births, 1st was 3rd degree and 2nd was 2nd degree. I had an epidural for both but had post-dural headaches with my 1st. The experience for both was good, the midwives and Drs were amazing. I didn't have a birth plan as I was concerned I'd end up disappointed and I think I would've been. So I'm glad I went with the flow.
How did you find the transition into motherhood?
Definitely not what I was expecting. It was harder than I could ever imagine. When I had my 1st I was questioning myself on whether this was a mistake or not. But I'm fine now and I enjoy being a mum.
How would you describe your parenting style?
I think I'm quite a laid back parent. I like to listen to my girls feelings and how they wish to be as humans, plus trying to guide them at the same time.
What is your favourite part of being a mum?
Just seeing my girls explore the world, grow and achieving goals.
What do you do for you outside of motherhood?
Dates with my husband, BBQs with the family and sometimes drinks with my co workers.
